Police arrest suspect in shootout outside apartment complex on Viscount
Police officers with the Crimes Against Persons Unit arrested the suspect allegedly involved in a shootout outside an East Side apartment complex.
Kion Darnay Newsome, 23, is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Dating Violence) and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, police said.
The shootout happened shortly before 5 am Sunday on the 7900 block of Viscount. Police said Newsome was kicked out of a party due to “violent tendencies.”
After he was kicked out, Newsome fired rounds from a weapon at his ex-girlfriend, who ran back to the party to seek help.
Others at the party, including an armed man, ran outside to confront Newsome. Police said Newsome and the armed man, not identified by police, exchanged gunfire before Newsome fled in a vehicle.
No one was struck by the rounds.
The US Marshals Lone Star Fugitive Task located Newsome in Northeast El Paso Monday. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on bonds totaling $150,000.
