Police arrest suspect in McCombs shooting

The police department’s Gang Unit arrested and charged a Northeast El Paso man in connection to a shooting on the 9700 block of McCombs.

Paul Garcia, 24, is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Police said Garca and a 24-year-old man got into an argument at 9795 McCombs at about 1:20 am Wednesday 4, 2017.

Garcia allegedly pulled out a handgun and the men egan to wrestle for the weapon, causing the weapon to discharge, police said.

Gang investigators further learned a round discharged during the altercation struck the victim and Garcia.

Police said the victim was assaulted “by an unknown amount of suspects as he laid on the ground.”

The victim was able to flee and seek medical attention, police said.

Police officers located Garcia minutes after the shooting and turned him over to the Gang Unit.

Garcia was booked on one count of Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon and four outstanding Municipal Court Warrants. His bonds totaled $201,685.
