WKU Hilltoppers top UTEP by one point, 15-14

The UTEP Miners fought hard on homecoming night, but fell by just one point to the Hilltoppers from Western Kentucky University.

The final score was 15-14.

It was the first game under interim head coach Mike Price.

A homecoming of sorts for Price who once coached the Miners from 2004 to 2012.

UTEP battled through all 4 quarters.

With no score in the 2nd quarter, WKU would get on the board first following a quarterback keeper from Mike White.

WKU would convert on a 2-point conversion to take the lead 8-0.

UTEP would respond with a touchdown pass from Zach Greenlee to Kavika Johnson to make it 8-7 Hilltoppers.

Miners would get another touchdown in the 2nd quarter following a quarterback keeper from Greenlee.

It would be the Miners first lead of the game and they would go into the half with that lead at 14-8.

In the third quarter, the Hilltoppers would retake the lead with a another quarterback keeper from White to make it 15-14.

The kicking game was a big problem for the Miners.

UTEP kicker Brady Viles missed a field goal attempt with a little more than 2 minutes left in the game.

It would have given the Miners the lead.

Viles missed 3 field goals on the night.

With the loss, the Miners fall to 0-6 on the season.

They’ll hit the road next weekend to take on the 3-2 Southern Miss Golden Eagles.
