Update: NM livestock board inspector pleads not guilty to charges

Investigators with the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office arrested a certified law enforcement officer with the New Mexico Livestock Board accused of engaging in sexual acts with a 15-year-old boy.

Online jail records state 61-year-old George Donald Hatfield, of Chaparral, is charged with Enticement of a Child, Criminal Solicitation and two counts of Criminal Sexual Penetration (Minor Consent).

Hatfield appeared before a magistrate court judge Friday. Through his attorney, Hatfield requested a public defender and pleaded not guilty. State prosecutors couldn’t convince the judge he was a flight risk and he was released on his own recognizance.

Hatfield must meet the conditions of his release: he can’t return to the scene, he can’t leave the county and he must avoid contact with the alleged victim.

Court documents state the boy’s mother reported the allegations August 9, 2017 after she learned her son was meeting with adult men to engage in sexual acts.

A Statement of Facts filed against Hatfield, obtained by ABC-7’s New Mexico Mobile Newsroom, states the boy told investigators he met with “Donnie” at a truck stop in Vado, New Mexico.

The boy told investigators he entered a truck with a door emblem that included an eagle. Donnie allegedly drove the boy to “one of the dairies off Stern Drive in Vado, New Mexico,” the court document states.

Donnie reportedly told the boy the dairy farm was his office and two allegedly had sex inside the office, according to the statement of facts.

When investigators asked the boy to take them to the location where he allegedly had sex with Donnie, the boy took them to the local livestock inspectors office off Stern Drive, the court document further states.

Bob Alexander, with the New Mexico Livestock Board, told ABC-7 the board is appalled by the charges. “This employee has been placed on leave pending law enforcement’s investigation and we will cooperate fully. We will pursue termination of this employee if there has been any wrongdoing.”

Hatfield is being held without bond, jail records state.
