Thousands raised in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
It wasn’t a long, or physically demanding walk. But it was an important walk for Terry Rodriguez to finish.
Rodrgiuez was diagnosed with breast cancer in April. That’s why this year’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk hit close to home.
“I’m fighting the good fight and I’m going to make it,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez was not alone in her walk. A sea of pink — made up of family friends and co-workers — guided her towards the finish.
“It’s been wonderful. They’ve been here since day one. Not just today, but the day I was diagnosed,” Rodriguez said. “It’s beautiful, that support means a lot.”
Dale Delgadillo proved that no one’s too tough to wear pink. He wore a black and pink motorcycle vest in honor of his mother. Ana Maria Delgadillo passed away from breast cancer in 2011.
“It makes me feel proud that I’m out here with the community. I’m doing my best to do stuff for her and in memory of her,” Delgadillo said.
Terry Myers and her family donned pink shirts that read “Team Gina.” Gina is Myers’ sister.
“When she was diagnosed in May, it was not easy. She’s the first one to go through breast cancer. As tough as it has been, she’s a very strong woman,” Myers said. “It’s important to know what’s out there because cancer does not mean death. It is survivable.”
Fire fighter Efrain Garcia wore a pink fire fighter uniform, complete with a pink oxygen tank. Garcia said all of the equipment weighed over 40 pounds.
“What little pain we face here today is nothing compared to what they face every day,” Garcia said.
The walk raised over $70,000.
