FBI investigating shooting involving Border Patrol agent near I-10 and Eastlake
The FBI and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Officer are investigating a shooting involving a Border Patrol agent near I-10 East and Eastlake, an FBI spokesperson confirmed.
A source with knowledge of the investigation told ABC-7 someone fired a weapon at an off-duty Border Patrol agent early Wednesday morning.
ABC-7 is working to confirm whether the agent fired back and exactly how many rounds were fired. The agent was not struck by any of the rounds, the source said.
ABC-7 asked both the Border Patrol and the sheriff’s office whether the agent was driving in a marked unit or a private vehicle. Neither agency was able to provide an answer.
Police were forcing traffic heading east on I-10 off the freeway near the Eastlake exit as FBI agents investigated.
The freeway was reopened shortly after 11 am.
