Aaron and Alvin Jones visit fans at Las Palmas Medical Center

Aaron and Alvin Jones are known for working hard to be the best they can be on the field. But Wednesday wasn’t about lifting weights or putting up numbers. Rather, it was about lifting spirits and putting up a fight.

Former UTEP Miner turned Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones took advantage of the team’s bye week to return to El Paso. He and his brother Alvin, who is preparing to lead UTEP’s defense against UTSA this weekend, took the time to visit Las Palmas Medical Center Wednesday afternoon.

“Kids here are kind of down, so I’m just here to lift up their spirits and encourage them, let them know everything is gonna be okay,” said Aaron Jones. “I’m here to help any way I can.”

The Jones brothers spent the afternoon taking photos, signing autographs, and giving gifts to children at the Las Palmas pediatric unit.

At one point Aaron gave a Packers hat to a young running back recovering from injury and chatted about the art of the position. They agreed scoring a touchdown per game was a good goal.

Aaron Jones recently recorded 131 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Saints on Sunday just two weeks after he posted 125 yards on the ground and a TD against the Cowboys.

For Alvin Jones, getting a chance to do something like this helped lift his spirit, too.

“As a kid you always have big dreams and goals, but it still feels surreal when you get to do stuff like this. It’s just giving me a good feeling about myself that I’m able to help other people out,” he said.

Aaron is expected to attend UTEP’s home game against UTSA to cheer on his brother. The game begins at 6:00 p.m. UTEP is also giving away 1,000 Aaron Jones bobbleheads at the game to fans who receive a special sticker on page 29 of their game programs.
