Astros make good on 2014 S.I. prediction and win World Series

“Baseball’s Great Experiment” has finally paid dividends.

Sports Illustrated famously predicted in the summer of 2014 that the Houston Astros would win the 2017 World Series, and now they have after beating the Dodgers 5-1 in Los Angeles in game seven.

Not only did the magazine predict the Astros would win the title this year, they also put this year’s World Series MVP, George Springer, on the cover.

Houston finished the 2014 season with a 70-92 record, which was tied for the second-worst record in the American League.

That was actually an improvement on their 2013 campaign, in which the Astros finished with the worst record in the Majors (51-111).

In case you’re wondering, the Mets finished the 2017 season with a 70-92 record. Is it time to jump on the 2020 Mets’ bandwagon perhaps?

Now, the Astros finally have a World Series title to their name, meaning that only seven existing franchises have never won the top prize. Those seven franchises are Texas, Seattle, Washington, San Diego, Colorado, Tampa Bay, and Milwaukee.

It wasn’t easy though. Houston entered the league as an expansion team in 1962, waiting 55 years to finally take its place at the top.
