UTEP jumps out to 32-0 lead in win over Louisiana College
The UTEP Miners jumped out to a 32-0 lead in their season-opener against Louisiana College en route to a 100-50 win Friday night at the Don Haskins Center.
UTEP held Louisiana College scoreless for the first 13 minutes and 31 seconds of the game before the Wildcats finally hit a three with 6:29 to go in the first half.
Six different Miners scored in double figures with Isiah Osborne’s 17 leading the way. Osborne tallied those 17 points in just 17 minutes.
Though head coach Tim Floyd had voiced concerns about the team’s defense before the start of the season, the Miners were able to force 19 turnovers in the win.
They also shot nearly 58-percent while holding the Division III Wildcats to just 32-percent shooting.
Things get much tougher for the Miners quickly. UTEP will next play in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament (now moved to Myrtle Beach, SC).
The Miners begin tournament play against Boise State on Nov. 16.
