Chihuahuas to host Padres again in exhibition in March

The Chihuahuas announced Wednesday that they will meet the Padres in an exhibition game on March 26, 2018 at Southwest University Park at 6:35 p.m.

The two teams squared off in an exhibition in March of 2016 as well. The Chihuahuas led that game 7-5 in the 4th inning, but the Padres went on to win by a final of 13-9.

Hunter Renfroe hit two homers for the Chihuahuas that night. He and other former Chihuahuas such as Carlos Asuaje, Austin Hedges, and Manuel Margot will likely make their returns to Southwest University Park, this time as members of the Padres.

“The Padres have been tremendous partners through our first four seasons providing our fans with top tier, up-and-coming talent,” said Chihuahuas Vice President and General Manager Brad Taylor.

The event is designed to celebrate the fifth season of Chihuahuas baseball. And, it’s a way for the Padres to thank El Paso fans for their support of the team’s Triple-A affiliate.

“Well, it’s one of the things about the Padres organization as a whole. It’s really fan-friendly. And they have a real appreciation – the players, the ownership, the front office – for what El Paso and our Chihuahuas fans mean to their players and to the organization,” said Chihuahuas President Alan Ledford.

Hopefully, the game mirrors the first exhibition between the teams. The two squads combined to hit eight homers in the game in 2016.
