Police arrest suspect in Northeast El Paso murder investigation
Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit have charged 35-year-old Efrain Argumedo with the murder of Marco Hinojos, 36.
Police officers responded to a fight in progress call in the 5000 block of Pikes Peak at about 1:40 am Saturday.
Police said officers found the unresponsive victim in the driveway of a residence. Hinojos, suffering from serious head injuries, was transported to University Medical Center, where he later died.
A criminal complaint affidavit obtained by ABC-7 states Argumedo was escorted out of the residence by two men who witnessed an argument inside the residence. As he was being escorted to his vehicle, Argumendo allegedly got into a fight with the witnesses. During the fight, Argumendo allegedly punched one of the witnesses in the face.
Police said the witness struck in the face fell to the ground and struck his head on the concrete sidewalk. As the victim lay on the ground, Argumedo allegedly continued punching the victim in the face, the criminal complaint states. The second witness separated Argumedo from the victim on the ground and Argumedo allegedly fled the scene in an SUV
Investigators secured an arrest warrant for Argumedo, arrested the following day. Argumedo was booked into the El Paso County on a murder charge with bond set at $500,000.
This is the 19th Murder of 2017 compared to 16 during this same time period in 2016.
