The Monday after Thanksgiving, otherwise known as “Cyber Monday”, has been the busiest day of the year for online shopping since 2010.

Last year almost 47% of all website visits come from mobile devices, mostly smart phones, and contributed to 31% of sales.

So before you enter your personal information, take a look at these tips.

The Better Business Bureau Paso Del Norte suggests installing software on your child’s computer to limit their access to certain websites. Since kids and teens have good credit, BBB says hackers may target your child’s information. Therefore, talk to your kids about the importance of not giving out personal information in emails or social media. Also, watch out for scams. Scammers may try to lure kids by having them click on links that advertise free products, such as “free games” or “free concerts”.

Also, before sending any personal or sensitive information, make sure the website has “https://” at the beginning of the address. The “S” indicates the website is secure because it is encrypted, which makes it safe to enter credit card or other personal information.

Last year, shoppers spent a record $2.45 billion online, making it the highest online haul in history. Officials estimate online retailers will hit record numbers again this year.
