Crash in Central El Paso turns deadly

The El Paso Police Department confirmed Wednesday that a man was killed after a four-vehicle crash Tuesday night in Central El Paso.

Police identified him as Irving Zuniga, 21, of El Paso.

The crash happened at about 11 p.m. on Trowbridge Drive near N. Clark Drive.

Special Traffic Investigators were called out to the scene.

Police said Irving Zuniga was driving a a 2001 Honda Civic east at 6000 Trowbridge.

Jose Ortiz, 57, the driver a 2018 Freightliner that was towing two other vehicles was northbound on the 800 block of Clark and was making a left turn onto Trowbridge.

Police said Ortiz had the green light and Zuniga disregarded the red light. Zuniga hit one of the vehicles in tow, continued traveling and hit a pole.

Zuniga was taken to University Medical Center where he died. No other injuries were reported.

STI said Zuniga’s disregard of the red light was a contributing factor in the crash.

According to EPPD, the crash marks the the 50th fatality of 2017 compared to 61 during this same time period in 2016.
