How would El Pasoans spend the $440 million Powerball prize?

Wednesday’s Powerball drawing will be the ninth largest in history at $440 million.

“It’s a lot of money!” said Xochil Garay, who works at the Valero on Executive Center and Mesa Street.

The actual cash payout is actually $278,300,000 after taxes. How would El Pasoans spend that cash?

“First, I would donate,” said Daniela Mireles, an El Paso native.

If Mireles won the lottery, she said she’d help others before spending her cash prize.

“I’d like to donate to the Ronald McDonald House because I volunteered there before,” Mireles said. “I would buy my mom a house because she deserves it.

The largest Powerball payout ever was $1.6 billion in January 2016.

Maybe the borderland is a lucky place to play: An El Paso man won $1 million at a Howdy’s on Resler and Helen of Troy Drive.

“I would buy a house,” Garay said.
