Woman dies after crashing SUV into building

The woman who died after her vehicle crashed into a building on south Motel Boulevard likely suffered a “medical episode” prior to the wreck, police said.

The crash happened shortly after 12pm Friday, January 5, 2017.

The 63-year-old woman, who will be identified once her family is notified, was driving south on Motel Boulevard in a 2012 Chevy Equinox.

The SUV left the roadway near the intersection of Roadrunner Lane, police said, and then continued traveling south until it struck the northeast corner of Richie’s Upholstery at 257 S. Motel Blvd.

Police said a person who witnessed the crash performed CPR on the woman, found unresponsive at the scene.

Las Cruces firefighters and paramedics continued to provide CPR until the woman was transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said the woman was the sole occupant of the vehicle and no injuries were reported at the business.

The wreck remains under investigation.
