Celebration of Lights to “go dark” after Sunday, December 7th

The City of El Paso’s Parks and Recreation Department announced that the final day of the Celebration of Lights would be Sunday, January 7th.

“It’s really beautiful and it’s a great place to take pictures and spend time together with loved ones,” said Naomi Di Stefano, an El Paso native.

In total, the display had 450,000 lights, according to the city.

“That’s a lot!” said Marian Duron. “It’s really beautiful. I really enjoy it.”

In the final hours of the celebration, there were still dozens of people mingling around the plaza and taking selfies.

“It’s excellent,” said Alejandro Bugarini. “I mean, especially the weather… (it’s) just chilly enough to be outside and have a wonderful time.”

Jacob Vasquez suggested that the city should have more live music. Di Stefano added that next year, the city could add more food trucks to the celebration.

“They used to have a lot more in my opinion,” Di Stefano said.

However, nearly everyone said the 2017 – 2018 Celebration of Lights was a success.

“I think it’s helping with business because everybody wants to come down and see the beautiful lights,” Di Stefano said.

The lights will go dark at 1 a.m.
