EPCSO: Crime down in 2017
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO) said the county’s crime rate decreased by 26 percent last year compared to 2016.
According to the EPCSO, property crimes decreased by 28 percent. Last year, 603 property crimes were reported, compared to 847 in 2016. Violent crimes were tallied at 217 for 2017 and decreased by 18 percent in 2016 when 267 were reported.
EPCSO said the county’s crime rate has decreased by 43 percent since current Sheriff Richard D. Wiles and his administration took office in January of 2009.
The county credits deputies, other local, federal and state law enforcement agencies and organizations such as Crime Stoppers and Neighborhood Watch for the steady decrease in crime.
