Chico’s Tacos co-founder died Sunday evening, employees say
Emma Mora, the co-founder of Chico’s Tacos, died Sunday evening, sources close to her family tell ABC-7.
Employees at the Chico’s Tacos on Alameda in South Central El Paso confirmed Mora’s death, but declined to comment.
ABC-7 asked employees if Mora had been ill, but the employees said they didnt know, adding they were surprised by Mora’s death.
Sources close to the family tell ABC-7 Mora recently turned 90.
Chico’s Tacos, founded in 1953, is famous for its popular beef flautas served in tomato sauce with cheddar cheese.
It has four locations in El Paso: Dyer in Central, Alameda in South Central, Montwood in East El Paso and George Dieter near Las Palmas shopping center.
Generations of El Pasoans have come to enjoy Chico’s Tacos – notorious for only accepting cash. Customers ABC-7 spoke with said they’re sad to hear about the passing of Mora, but say her legacy will live on.
“Since we were kids, they’ve been taking us there — since I can remember — for everything,” said Adrian Solis, “You got out of a game? You go to Chico’s. You got out of a concert? You go to Chico’s Tacos. Family gathering? You go to Chico’s Tacos. It’s just family — that’s what it means to me.”
