TXDOT asks for drivers suggestions in Reimagine I-10 study
Reimagine I-10, that’s what the Texas Department of Transportation is calling a study it’s conducting in order to improve the interstate so many of us use.
TXDOT officials presented the study to the city’s Planning Commission Thursday.
“Reimagine I-10 is a corridor study that will help us identify how we can fix I-10, how we can make I-10 the best highway it can be,” said Jennifer Wright, TXDOT.
The study looks at a 55-mile stretch of I-10.
“It’ll take about 18 months with a series of meetings where we took input from stakeholders and the public and then we come back with ideas for them and then refine those ideas,” Wright said.
The plan consists of four segments.
The first study begins at the state line.
TXDOT officials say they are looking at cutting down travel time in that area.
“For example on the northern segment at the border of New Mexico people want to see three lanes there,” Wright said.
The next segment of the study starts at Executive Center Boulevard. This section could be slated for road improvements.
Following Executive Center Boulevard is the downtown segment.
“As you get into downtown there’s drainage issues then there’s the congestion. That’s different as you go east,” Wright said.
Then there’s the airport road segment. TXDOT is studying traffic congestion and exits in the area.
The final study starts at Loop 375 and ends in Tornillo.
“At the farthest point there’s connectivity issues out in that direction,” Wright said.
TXDOT has also created a website specifically for the Reimagine I-10 study where you can leave your ideas on how to make the road better.
