Timeline: Events leading up to baby Mattie’s death

The Las Cruces Police Department says the actions of two 19-year-old parents has led to the death of their 7-week-old baby.

ABC-7 searched the mother and father’s Facebook page for more answers.

On Nov. 29, Marcus Minnick announced the birth of Mattie Lenore Kimberly Minnick. She was said to be born 21 inches long, seven pounds and 14 ounces.

One week later, a post pleading for prayers.
“Hey guys can I get a prayer line going for my little girl she’s in the hospital and needs some prayers for her to get better!!” the post said.

Two days after that, a thank-you post for prayers from friends and followers.

On Christmas Eve, Minnick updated his profile picture with a photo of mother Caricia Lorena Ceballos with Mattie.

Later, police say Minnick was babysitting at his home when Mattie began to cry. Investigators say Minnick shook her back and forth. Minnick reportedly told police he noticed Mattie was not breathing and tried to revive her.

It wasn’t until Ceballos returned home when 911 was called.

Both parents are being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center without bond.
