YISD board approves superintendent’s evaluation, extends his contract
The Ysleta Independent School District Board of Trustees extended Superintendent Xavier De La Torre’s contract Wednesday night.
After an hours-long meeting behind closed doors, the board extended De La Torre’s contract until June of 2023. The board also discussed and accepted the superintendent’s annual evaluation.
A spokeswoman for the district said De La Torre’s contract will be available once it’s finalized.
De Torre joined YISD in 2014. The following year, voters approved a $430 million bond with 60 percent of the vote.
At the beginning of this school year in September, De la Torre told ABC-7 said the district has been very aggressive and very ambitious to complete the bond projects. About $300 million of the $430 million bond has been spent.
The biggest project in the bond is the rebuilding of Eastwood High School. The $93 million project is expected to be completed in time for the 2019-2020 school year.
