100 Resilient Cities Initiative strategy launches Thursday
From wild weather to booming populations, cities around the globe are faced with a host challenges. But it’s how quickly they bounce back, and how much stronger they become that matters.
It’s called resilience.
The Rockefeller Foundation hand-picked El Paso as one of the first cities to be a part of the 100 Resilient Cities Initiative. El Paso and Dallas were the only Texas cities chosen.
“This isn’t about El Paso following other cities, this is about El Paso leading globally,” said City of El Paso Chief Resilience Officer Nicole Ferrini.
In 2015, Ferrini was hired to create a roadmap of how to face climate change, growing migrant populations, cyber attacks, and aging infrastructure among other challenges.
El Paso and Jaurez make up one of the only bi-national metroplex on the list, and join world destinations like Athens, Barcelona and London
“The challenges that face El Paso today may not be the same challenges that face us in 10 years,” said Ferrini.
