LCHS students practice first response in mock explosion

Las Cruces High School turned into a simulation crime scene where students were tested on their emergency and first response skills.

The simulated disaster put the student’s knowledge into action as they reacted to the sounds of explosion during a football game. Some students played the role of victims while others played the role of first responders.

One group of students worked on helping with locating victims suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, assessing the mental health status of students and providing therapeutic treatment. Other students also practiced analyzing fingerprints and compare them to a list of subjects.

Local fire and law enforcement helped conduct the simulation Friday. It was organized for more than 650 students who are enrolled at the school’s Health and Human Services Academy.
