Hundreds of Eagles fans crowd east El Paso bar

Hundreds of Philadelphia Eagles fans hugged, cried and chugged beer after a historic Superbowl win at Border City Ale House.

“I can’t explain anything,” said Natalie Muñoz, whose eyes welled up with tears. “(There’s) just happiness.”

At 4 p.m., El Paso resident Aldo Monterrey insisted his team would walk away with their first franchise win.

“(We want) an absolute, total vindication of years prior,” said Monterrey, a lifelong fan. “A win, a trophy under our belt, our first championship, and all the glory that comes with it.”

By 8 p.m., ABC-7’s attempts at a follow-up interview failed, because Monterrey was crying his eyes out.

“We won!” Monterrey choked out, brushing away tears.

Before this year, the Eagles franchise was one of only thirteen teams in the NFL to not have a Superbowl title.

“This is what we want,” Muñoz said. “And we got it.”

The last time the Eagles played the Patriots in the Superbowl was in 2005, when the Patriots beat the Eagles 24 to 21.

“We made a lot of bad plays,” said Brad Peterson, a Patriots fan who watched the game at 3 Pints Pub on the northeast side of town. “We could have won the game, but we came up short.”
