Mother tells ABC-7 her son was allegedly assaulted by teacher
A mother tells ABC-7 her son was assaulted at Hanks High School.
The alleged assailant – his teacher.
The mother of the young boy says it all happened last week right before he walked into class.
“What do you mean a teacher hit you?” Yolanda Davila asked her son Lionel Davila after he called her about allegedly being assaulted.
“My blood was boiling,” Davila said.
The mother of the high school freshman set to find out exactly what happened.
“I had just come back from lunch,” Lionel Davila said.
Lionel Davila told ABC-7 he had headphones on right before stepping into class and felt someone grab him by the arm.
Lionel Davila said he tried to brush off the grab.
“That’s when he hit me in the face,” Lionel Davila said.
Davila went on to say his teacher, John Scheetz pushed him against the door.
“He supposedly approached him because his pants were torn,” Yolanda Davila said.
Yolanda Davila adds her son was wearing shorts under the pants as well.
Yolanda Davila said her son was asked by school officials to write a report of what had happened. She also filed a report with the police and took her son to the hospital the following day.
Yolanda Davila said her son had been in pain.
“The radiologist told me he had a small fracture in his shoulder,” Yolanda Davila said.
ABC-7 contacted the school district and they sent a statement saying:
“Mr. John Scheetz is a social studies teacher and assistant girls track coach at Hanks High school. He has been employed with the district since September 1989. Currently, Mr. Scheetz is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. Since personnel matters are confidential, it is the practice of the Ysleta Independent School District not to comment on them. However, we want to reassure the public that Ysleta ISD follows policy on all personnel matters.”
“I want them to do something,” Yolanda Davila said.
Yolanda told ABC-7 school officials only spoke to her for five minutes after the incident and she hasn’t heard from them since.
Yolanda Davila said she would like for the district to pay for the hospital bills.
While the statement by YISD said Scheetz is on paid administrative leave, Yolanda Davila said her son has seen him teaching up to the day of this story.
Police say this case is still under investigation.
