Runner looks to complete El Paso Marathon – his 259th

Ed Broadnax is practically the human Energizer Bunny.

Come Sunday, Broadnax will be looking to complete his 259th marathon during the El Paso Marathon.

“I am just so happy, I am trying to get that goal of 300,” Broadnax said.

The marathon maniac and Army veteran calls El Paso his hometown. Broadnax served in the Army from 1987 to 2013 and had multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

“I started running marathons back in 2007,” he said. “Some of those deployments took a toll on me, so I found running was a big relief to my mind and physique and my whole fitness level and mojo.” He added, “It helped me with my post-traumatic stress disorder.”

Since 2007, Broadnax’s feet have never stopped moving. “In 2012, when I came back from Afghanistan, which was my worst deployment, thank God I came back, I ran 53 marathons in 2013. I ran 51 marathons in 2014 and in 2015 I hit 58.:

He even goes beyond 26.2 miles by venturing into 50 and 100-mile races.

“When I run, it’s just me and the pavement,” he said.

Broadnax’s passion has taken him across. He has run in every single state, but he’s got a special place in his heart for the El Paso Marathon. “It ranks up there with the ones I have run,” he said. “The volunteers, the runners and the community comes outside to cheer for runners. It’s a beautiful run.”

The El Paso Marathon is scheduled to begin Sunday at 7 a.m.

Good luck, Ed!
