PETA adds $5,000 to reward to find the driver who killed a dog

A week since a beloved pet was run over and killed in his family’s driveway, one national organization is amping up the search to find whoever was behind the wheel.

The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, is adding $5,000 to the reward for information on the driver of a black Chevy Camaro caught on surveillance camera running over an Australian shepherd named Jude.

Jude was hit and killed on Feb. 16 when the car drove off the private driveway leading to the Curry home. ABC-7 reported that the Curry family had offered $1,000 for information leading to the driver.

In a news release on PETA’s website, the organization said someone identifying the car may be the only way of catching the driver.

“This beloved dog suffered in agony after being dragged under a car, and he died alone without his family by his side,” said PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA urges anyone who recognizes this vehicle to come forward immediately so that whoever ran over this dog and drove away can be held accountable and stopped from hurting anyone else.”
