A woman, 77, killed in early-morning house fire

El Paso Fire Department officials report that the woman who was killed during a house fire Monday morning had burn injuries.

The fire started Monday around 3:00 a.m. on the 11000 block of Caballo Lake Drive near Saul Kleinfeld Drive and Pebble Hills Boulevard.

When EPFD arrived at the scene, they were approached by a 45-year-old man who said he got out of the house after hearing a smoke alarm, but that there was significant smoke and fire damage toward the back of his one-story home, emergency officials told ABC-7.

Fire crews found a woman, 77, dead inside the home. She is being described as the man’s mother. EPFD said that one firefighter was injured but didn’t need to be taken to the hospital.

Fire investigators are looking into the cause and have not determined the cost of the damage the fire caused to the home. The El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons unit was also on the scene, which investigators told ABC-7 is normal for an incident of this nature.
