Man convicted of raping pregnant woman in resort room

A man was found guilty of raping a pregnant woman in 2013 at a room at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in Mescalero, NM.

Chris L. Sais, 39, was convicted of two counts of Criminal Sexual Penetration, both second degree felonies, following a two-day trial in Alamogordo.

According to court documents, the incident occurred December 6, 2013 when Sais obtained a duplicate copy of a room key where a pregnant woman, the girlfriend of Sais’ friend, was staying.

Investigators say Sais helped his friend get a reduced rate at the resort and the friend brought his pregnant girlfriend, who didn’t know Sais.

Sais entered the room and proceeded to rape the victim while she was alone in the room, according to investigators.

Federal officials didn’t say how Sais obtained the duplicate key.

Surveillance footage of the resort showed Sais entering and leaving the room and going down a flight of stairs.

During trial, Sais admitted to four previous convictions. He faces up to 39 years in prison at a sentencing hearing that will take place later this year.
