CBP: Mexican nationals found carrying pot-filled backpacks near Lordsburg

Border Patrol agents from Lordsburg seized 115 pounds of marijuana from three suspects who were allegedly pushing bikes and carrying backpacks filled with pot.

The three individuals were spotted by night vision technology three miles north of the Mexican border and Border Border Patrol agents were able to arrest two of the suspects, while the third absconded by running south and remains at large.

Eliseo Chavez, 39, and 37-year-old Carlos Gutierrez, both undocumented Mexican nationals, will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration in Las Cruces.

A search of the three backpacks found they were filled with a green-leafy substance that tested positive for marijuana. The collective weight of the found substance was 115 pounds.
