Woman accused of slashing tires at apartment complex she lived in

The woman arrested for allegedly slashing two dozen tires at an apartment complex lived at that same complex, according to a criminal complaint.

Police say 54-year-old Deirdre Elsie Benoit slashed 22 tires at the Timberwolf Apartments on the 1300 block of Magruder. She is being charged with Criminal Mischief.

The morning of March 5, 2018, several people living at the complex discovered their vehicle tires had been slashed overnight.

Investigators from the Central Regional Command Center obtained surveillance video recorded by one of the victims. The video depicts a woman walking her dog through the complex parking lot. The woman is allegedly seen stooping down to puncture the tires of the two cars within the camera angle.

The man who recorded the surveillance footage told police he recognized Benoit in the footage because she lived in the complex.

A police officer investigating the crime located Benoit trying to empty her storage unit at the apartment complex. Benoit was notified about the footage and taken into custody.

When shown the surveillance footage, Benoit acknowledged it was her in the footage slashing the tires, a court document states.

Police said Benoit’s actions resulted in nearly $3,800 in damage.

Police arrested Benoit Monday afternoon. She was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $1,500 bond. Police said additional charges are pending.
