Women’s Basketball: UTEP falls to UAB in C-USA quarterfinals

The UTEP women’s basketball team came close to pulling a big upset against top-seeded UAB in the Conference USA Tournament quarterfinals, but came up a bit short in the end.

UTEP led by a point entering the fourth quarter, but UAB outscored the Miners 20-10 in the final period to claim a 75-66 victory. The Blazers advanced to the semifinals where they will meet Rice.

UAB jumped out to an early 14-5 lead in the first, forcing UTEP to burn an early timeout. The Miners settled down after the early onslaught and only trailed by two at the half.

UTEP would seize a five-point lead late in third on a Zuzanna Puc three-pointer, but the offense stalled after that.

The Miners were undone by 19 turnovers compared to just 11 committed by UAB.

Tamara Seda, UTEP’s lone senior, played another outstanding game in what will be her last with the Miners. She tallied 15 points and 14 rebounds to go along with four steals.

UTEP ends the season with a 17-14 record, while UAB improved to 25-5 overall.
