Estela Casas gives update on cancer treatment

ABC-7’s Estela Casas recently spoke with fellow ABC-7 anchor Rick Cabrera and updated us with great news as she undergoes breast cancer treatment.

Estela said she received a text from her oncologist saying, “no cancer in the breast tissue of the lymph nodes.” She said the update meant the six rounds of chemotherapy she endured worked.

“I’m ecstatic,” she said. “It’s not a cure, but it’s the best possible diagnosis at this point.”

Estela said her positivity has helped her guide through the treatment process.

“This is my nature, and I think that a positive attitude is good in anything,” she said. “Everyday I would wake up and it’s like, ‘Thank you God for another day.’ But I wake up either determining to have a good day or a bad day, and I choose to have a good day because the alternative; once you get into this black hole, it’s very hard to get out of.”

Estela also recalled the first time she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

“When you hear ‘You have breast cancer,’ everything comes tumbling down,” She said. ” You hear the ‘C’ word and you think, it’s a death sentence. But it isn’t always, and I was lucky enough to get the HER2-positive. Which is one of the only breast cancer that has immunotherapy.”

Estela is thankful for the thoughts and positive reinforcement she has received by family, co-workers and members of the community.

“There is definitely power in prayer,” she said. “The guy upstairs has heard everyone’s prayers and I’m so thankful and so grateful.”
