Family, friends looking for missing Vietnam veteran

Family and friends are searching for 70-year-old Jose Margaro Gonzalez, who they say has been missing since Sunday.

Family members say Gonzalez is a Vietnam veteran, a Bowie High School graduate and a respected member of their community.

“Gonzalez is the president of the Aoy Alumni Association and was recently recognized by the Tejano Democrats for his work in the community,” said Felipe Peralta, a close friend of Gonzalez.

Family members told ABC-7 Gonzalez was last seen in Ciudad Juarez and that some of his clothing and documents were found by an unknown person.

“His wife posted his drivers license picture and his VA ID,” Francis Gonzalez said.

The family has run into issues with meeting the man in person.

Gonzalez’s niece, Monica Gonzalez, said Gonzalez has diabetes and needs medication daily.

Family and friends held a vigil to bring attention to this missing person case with the hope of finding him safe and sound.

“He is a person that helps a lot of people many people depend on him for housing and helping at different places so we don’t want to lose that in our community,” Peralta said.

The El Paso Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been notified.

Family members say police could not issue a Silver Alert because Gonzalez does not have dementia or Alzhiemer’s disease.

Family members ask you share this story and call the police if you have any information.
