Wyler Tramway celebrates 17th anniversary

The Wyler Aerial Tramway celebrated its 17th anniversary as a state park.

As hundreds of people stood in line waiting to take the tramway to the top of ranger peak, dozens more gathered at booths set up around the park, learning about local fauna and our desert ecosystem.

The tramway started as a commercial venture 58 years ago, the first two generations of cars are still on display. It’s been a state park for only the past 17 years after KTSM’s owner died and willed the land to the park service. Today welcomed everyone to learn about the history and what the park has to offer, even on days without celebrations.

“They can come any weekend we have. Every month we have different events, different activities, so just check our website and check our social media for those events and activities we have and programs from guided hikes to workshops, and if not they can plan to be here next year,” said Diana Moy, one of the park interpreters.
