Will Hernandez returns to UTEP for pro day with draft on the horizon

Former UTEP offensive lineman Will Hernandez could have conducted his NFL pro day just about anywhere, but he chose to be at UTEP Tuesday with his teammates.

Hernandez, who is a Las Vegas native and has spent time recently training in Southern California, is widely expected to be a first or second-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

As of Tuesday afternoon, CBS Sports projected Hernandez would go 18th overall to Minnesota (if they acquire that pick in a trade with Seattle). NFL.com also projected Hernandez to be a first-round pick. Their mock draft has the former UTEP guard going 21st overall to Buffalo.

Hernandez appears to have seen his stock risen in recent weeks after a stellar showing at the NFL Combine.

Hernandez performed a wide variety of drills for scouts at Sun Bowl Stadium Tuesday, showing off his speed, strength, and footwork. He participated in the broad jump, vertical jump, and performed on-field workouts for those in attendance.

He was joined by several other UTEP players including linebacker Alvin Jones – brother of Packers running back Aaron Jones.

Aaron, who was selected in the fifth round last year by Green Bay, was in attendance to support his brother and former teammates.

Alvin Jones has previously stated he hopes to be a linebacker at the next level, but he is also reportedly drawing interest from a handful of teams as a potential fullback.

The NFL Draft begins on April 26th and will run through the 28th.
