Del Valle & San Elizario advance to state soccer quarterfinals

Four boys high school soccer teams from the Borderland were trying to get another step closer to a state title on Friday.

In 5A, the Bowie Bears and the Del Valle Conquistadores each played a regional semi-final game.

The Bowie Bears would fall to Aledo by a final of 3 (4) – 2 (1) — in a game that would have to be settled by penalty kicks.

If the Bears would have won that game, they could have faced Del Valle in the quarterfinals.

The Conquistadores defeated the Rider Raiders by a final of 1-0.

Del Valle moves on to the Elite 8 where they will face Aledo Saturday afternoon.

In 6A, the season also came to an end for the Montwood Rams.

Montwood lost its regional semi-final game against the Irving Tigers.

After two overtimes, the game remained tied at 2, so it went to penalty kicks where the Rams fell by just one goal 3 (5) — 2 (4).

In 4A, the San Elizario Eagles are moving on after defeating the Life Oak Cliff Lions, 2-0.

This is the second year in a row that the Eagles have made it to the regional final.

Saturday, San Elizario will face Bridgeport for the region title.
