EP Comic Con draws in thousands of sci-fi, video game, anime and comic book fans
From Star Trek to Star Wars and anything else falling under the unique category of comics, anime and video games — it was all in one place Saturday — The EP Comic Con.
The event drew in thousands and many in full costume.
The convention center was packed with young and old and even some wild ones.
Vendors from all over the U.S. were selling shirts, rare action figures and art work.
Local artist Jesse Gandallira said events like EP Comic Con helps get his work in the public eye.
“It gets the name out there and you meet a bunch of new people that are into fandoms,” Gandarilla said.
There was even an old Batmobile on full display.
Owner Mike Esh told ABC-7 he uses the car for charity work.
“We give kids rides, it’s pleasure cruising and picking up soldiers from overseas,” Esh said.
But the main attraction was the costumes.
Some dressed as Deadpool, the Watchman and Megaman.
“I’m always really surprised by the innovation that goes into the costuming. There’s always somebody here that’s handmade their costume and every year they get more complex and more intricate. They are so beautiful,” said El Paso Roller Derby girl Rebel Gum.
And perhaps none more intricate than the Richard Nixon head from the show FutureRama.
“What I hope to bring is laughter. I really enjoy the reactions that I get when I do this costume and it’s a whole hec of a lot of fun. It’s exhausting, but it’s fun,” Nixon said.
And don’t even think of asking if he’s a crook.
“I am not a crooks head,” Nixon said.
The Comic Con continues Sunday.
Tickets are $20 and the event is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
