US man arrested in northern Mexico with 22 lbs. of cocaine

Mexican authorities say a U.S. citizen has been arrested in a northern border state on suspicion of transporting about 22 pounds of cocaine.

The National Security Commission says in a Sunday statement that the man was pulled over for speeding in Coahuila state while driving a pickup with Texas license plates.

A police search of the vehicle turned up 14 black-wrapped packages of white powder in a hidden compartment.

The statement said the man presented a Texas driver’s license and told officers he was traveling from San Luis Potosi to Texas.

It did not give further identifying details, but said he was placed in the custody of authorities in Saltillo, Coahuila’s capital.

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
