Chihuahuas hold on for 5-3 win at Reno Tuesday night
The Chihuahuas held off a late rally by the Reno Aces Tuesday night to secure a 5-3 win in the first game of their extended road trip.
El Paso led 5-1 entering the bottom of the ninth inning but surrendered two runs to make things interesting.
The Chihuahuas were eventually able to hold off the late surge to claim the win and improve to 8-5 on the season. Reno, meanwhile, fell to 4-9 with the loss.
Former Chihuahua Cody Decker did not start for the Aces Tuesday, but he did appear as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the ninth. However, Decker struck out for the second out of the inning.
Both teams struggled to find their offense much of the game, and each side finished with only four hits in the game.
El Paso stranded 21 runners on base while Reno left 17 men on base.
The Chihuahuas have six more games on the road before they return home. That stretch includes three more at Reno followed by three at Las Vegas.
