Police arrest Las Cruces woman accused of kidnapping

Las Cruces police arrested a woman who allegedly kidnapped a woman and demanded $1,000 from her.

Lavonne Stallworth, 27, was taken into custody Monday after police say her and a male accomplice held a 26-year-old victim against her will on Tuesday April 10, 2018 at a home on the 2100 block of Lester Avenue. The suspected male accomplice, 20-year-old Eduardo Darcy Rosell, was arrested by police last week.

Investigators say Stallworth pointed a gun at the victim’s head and threatened to kill her if the victim didn’t pay the $1,000 demanded by the suspect. Police did not say how the victim was taken to the home.

The victim was taken to the Wells Fargo on 500 S. Main Street but was unable to get the money and didn’t alert anyone at the bank about the situation, police say. She was allegedly taken to Walmart on Walton Boulevard but was unable to cash a check and was taken back to the home at gunpoint.

Police say the victim was taken back to Wells Fargo at approximately 3 p.m. but this time alerted bank employees about the situation. Police were dispatched to the bank and later went to the home where the male suspect was allegedly inside but refused to exit the home.

A SWAT team was activated at about 8:30 p.m. and the male suspect was taken into custody. The female suspect remained at large until her arrest on Monday.

Both suspects are charged with one count of kidnapping and are being held without bond at the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
