New technology invented in El Paso used to make custom pet food

The Activa Customization Machine is revolutionizing the way pet food is sold. It was invented here in El Paso and can customize any Pet’s Barn Activa dog or cat food to your pet’s needs.

“Manufacturing, heat and processing kills probiotics, damages some key enzymes. And this happens to everyone’s dog food,” says President of Pet’s Barn Dean Travis.

That is one of the reasons why he decided to invent this machine. Nutrients that are lost in making the dog food can be added fresh back into the food at any Pet’s Barn store. There are 16 different enrichments that can be added to help your dog with anything from it’s skin and hair to it’s digestive problems. There are three enrichments available for cat food.

“What we have learned is that the customers love it, because the dogs are responding to it nutritionally,” says Dean.

Between the enrichments, flavors, and oils there are 55,000 different combinations available. The enrichment process takes less than a minute to complete in store and bags of food can be resealed for freshness.
