74th anniversary of D-Day commemorated

Wednesday is the 74th anniversary of the Normandy landings during World War II, also known as D-Day.

The greatest invasion ever attempted in wartime history was on the morning of June 6, 1944. More than 130,000 American, British, and Canadian soldiers staged an enormous military assault on German positions along five beaches of the coast of Normandy, France.

The El Paso Chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division Association will be holding a veteran recognition event at 10 a.m. at the 82nd Airborne Facility on 2608 Fort Boulevard to honor surviving and deceased veterans of the D-Day invasion and all WWII campaigns.

It’s free and everybody is welcomed to the commemoration. There will also be soft drinks, cake, and ice cream during their social hour.

For more information and registration of veterans, contact John Ceballos at (915) 240-8104 or through email at JohCeb@msn.com.
