El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame announces Class of 2018

The El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame announced its Class of 2018 on Tuesday.

The new class consisting of five members will officially be inducted at the El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Banquet on Sunday August 19, 2018 at the Wyndham Conference Center starting at 4:00 p.m.

The five members are as follows:

Carlos Licon, former player at Ysleta – Licon starred in high school baseball in El Paso and later went on to find success playing for New Mexico State. The Aggies even once named him their male athlete of the year.

George Arrieta, former player at Jefferson – After a stellar career with Jefferson, Arrieta went on to win a national championship at the junior college level. In fact, Arrieta was the winning pitcher in the 1978 NJCAA National Championship Game for Ranger Junior College, finishing the year with a 10-1 record.

Dr. Dwayne Aboud, sponsor and coach – Dr. Aboud has been sponsoring and coaching youth baseball teams in El Paso for decades. He’s helped finance trips for local teams to travel out-of-state and compete against top competition across the nation.

Bryan M. Tambone, former player at Andress – Tambone was a star pitcher and third baseman for the Eagles in the late 80s and early 90s. After his standout high school career he went on to Division One UTA after a great career at NMJC from 1995 to 1996. He later transferred to Oklahoma City University his senior year and was an all-conference selection there in 1997.

Larry N. Vucan, former Franklin coach – Vucan guided the Franklin Cougars to multiple playoff appearances in his eight seasons on the west side. He was named the head coach at Southlake Carroll ahead of the 2017 season and promptly guided his team to the Final Four that year. He then went on to lead the Dragons to the Class 6A state title this past season.
