Thousands of parcels of land removed from flood zones in Northeast
Homeowners in Northeast El Paso could save nearly $9 million after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) removed 4,876 parcels from the flood zone map.
The savings are a result of a decreased costs in flood insurance. The City’s engineering team, the Public Service Board and El Paso Water worked with FEMA to remove flood zones.
Nearly $14.6 million dollars were invested in flood control projects in the Northeast over the past several years.
The City then sent an application to FEMA to update the flood zone map. City officials said this application process took more than two years.
The City said it is currently working on removing flood zones in Districts 3, 6 and 7.
