Car seat safety inspections happening all summer long

Car crashes are the leading cause of death for kids 13 and under, that’s according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

This summer, The Texas Department of Transportation is launching a new partnership with Walmart and The El Paso Police Department to provide car seat inspections to keep children safe.

“This is the first time we have joined forces with Walmart,” said TxDOT Traffic Safety Specialist, Monica O’Kane. “The partnership enhances our outreach and allows us to leverage our resources and help more people.”

Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from various agencies and the EPPD will assist with onsite inspections. Each two-hour session is first come, first served starting today and children must be present.

The car seat inspections will take place all summer long at five local Walmart Supercenter locations across the city from 8 a.m. To 10 a.m.:

· June 13th at 13900 Horizon Blvd.

· June 15th at 10727 Gateway West

· July 13th at 7555 Mesa

· August 3rd at 4530 Woodrow Bean

· August 17th at 1850 N Zaragoza
