Target removes “Baby Daddy” greeting card after customers say it insulted African Americans

Target is removing “Baby Daddy” greeting cards ahead of Father’s Day after several offended customers complained the card is an insult to African American fathers.

A Twitter user said the cards were “an insult to black fathers and a slap in the face to the African-American community as a whole.”

In statement sent to FOX News, Target Spokesperson Joshua Thomas, “We want all guests to feel welcomed and respected when they shop at Target. We were made aware of some concerns about this card last week and are working with our vendor to have it removed from Target stores.”

A shopper named Takeisha Saunders shared a photo of the card on social media, claiming it was the only card the superstore offered featuring a black couple. “You CANNOT be serious Target!!!! Really!!!?!!!!? This was the only Father’s Day card that featured a black couple!!!!!!” wrote Saunders. The woman told Fox News she found the card at a Target location in Rockwall, Texas.

Seriously @Target???? Baby Daddy is not a term of endearment. This is an insult to black fathers and a slap in the face to the African-American community as a whole. There are plenty of black men that are EXCELLENT FATHERS, not “baby daddies”!!! pic.twitter.com/Q9OWRpBl0M

Other Target shoppers soon took to social media to post photos of the same Baby Daddy card being sold at their local Target locations. Many shared Saunders’ concerns, stating “Baby Daddy” is not an endearing term.
