West El Paso home has two large bee hives

A West El Paso resident is fighting off hundreds of bees this afternoon.

His home on the 600 block of Abbington is currently infested with two large bee hives.

Firefighters arrived at the home Friday morning to try and get rid of the bees, but couldn’t get to the hive, which is located under the eave of the home.

Another hive could be seen in a tree. The homeowner told ABC-7 he was stung dozens of times.

‘I’ve been calling 911, trying to get the fire station or somebody to come out here and spray them down with foam. They just left a few minutes ago and said there was nothing they can do about it,” said Joe Duran.

If you do come across a swarm of bees, wasps or hornets, here are some tips from the CDC to keep you safe:

Avoid perfumed soaps, shampoos, and deodorants. Avoid bananas and banana-scented toiletries. Wear clean clothing and bathe daily: sweat may anger bees.
