Traffic stop leads to arrest of 3 suspects, seizure of 123 pounds of marijuana

A routine traffic stop in Far East El Paso led to the discovery of more than 100 packages of marijuana and the arrest of three suspects.

Around 12:30 pm, on June 14, 2018, police pulled over 25-year-old Eduardo Gonzalez when he ran a stop sign. A drug-sniffing dog located 70 packages of marijuana during the traffic stop.

Further investigation led police to a house on Paul Todd Drive, where they allegedly found 27-year-old Edgar Castro and 25-year-old Mayra Martinez with an additional 44 packages of marijuana.

In all, the packages weighed more than 120 pounds.

Police charged Castro and Martinez with possession of marijuana. Both were jailed on a $50,000 bond each.

Gonzalez has been charged with possession of marijuana. He also faces an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance. Gonzalez also has 16 outstanding traffic warrants. His bond is slightly more than $57,000.

Police said this is an on-going investigation.
