Las Cruces man accused of attempting to strangle girlfriend

A Las Cruces man was arrested by police Monday morning for allegedly attempting to strangle his girlfriend during an argument.

Zechariah Hernandez, 21, has been charged with aggravated battery against a household member; a third-degree felony.

According to the Las Cruces Police Department, Hernandez grabbed his girlfriend’s neck and started to strangle her when their argument became heated.

Police said Hernandez stopped choking his girlfriend when their 9-month old daughter started crying.

Hernandez is currently being held in the Dona Ana County Detention Center without bond.
